Do I need to see a doctor first?
You can book a physiotherapy assessment directly; a doctor’s referral is not required to see us after a collision. Alberta identifies physiotherapists as primary health-care practitioners for collision injuries. We will assess whether physiotherapy is appropriate and advise when medical assessment is needed.
Will insurance pay? Do I need preapproval?
For eligible sprains, strains, and whiplash-associated disorders I or II, Alberta’s Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols allow treatment without waiting for insurer preapproval when you give notice of the claim and follow the protocols. Other injuries and care outside the protocols follow different coverage rules. We can explain the billing pathway and any expected costs before treatment; coverage is not guaranteed.
No claim number yet?
Call us. You do not need a claim number just to ask for help or discuss an assessment. Tell us the collision date and bring any insurance information you already have. Notify your insurer promptly; we can help explain the treatment paperwork, including the AB-1 claim form and the assessment report.
Can I choose or change my physiotherapist?
Yes. You can choose your physiotherapy provider, including a clinic outside your insurer’s preferred network. You can also change providers during a claim. Let us know about treatment already received so we can discuss records, remaining coverage, and continuity of care.
What happens at the first visit?
We listen to what happened, assess your symptoms and movement, and explain the findings and next steps. Your plan may include hands-on care, exercise, education, and a gradual return to daily activities. Treatment is based on the assessment and your consent.
- Discuss pain, sleep, driving, work, and daily activities
- Review your claim details and previous care
- Agree on a practical recovery plan and follow-up
When to seek urgent help
If anyone is seriously injured after a collision, call 911. The clinic’s booking service is not an emergency service. If you are unsure whether your symptoms need urgent medical attention, seek medical advice rather than waiting for a physiotherapy appointment.
